Synopsis

The Jungle is JUMPIN'!

Wolfang Reitherman's 'The Jungle Book,' a Walt Disney presentation of Rudyard Kipling's famed tales, is an infectious animated gem. After Oliver and Company I needed to remind myself and show my cousin what a REAL Disney film looks like so we watched The Jungle Book.
This is the last film that Walt Disney personally oversaw the growth of before his death and it really is one of the best the company made. The Jungle Book is based on Rudyard Kipling’s Mowgli stories and follows the adventures of the “man cub” as he lives in the jungle and discovers it to be both magical and incredibly dangerous.
Although this is a somewhat straightforward story the telling of it is absolutely terrific. Director Wolfgang Reitherman works wonders in making this one of Disney’s most lively pictures and manages the production incredibly…
Review In A Nutshell:
In all of the Disney classics, the one I was looking least forward to was The Jungle Book; I remember seeing the film multiple times as a child and I never found it to be that wonderful. It was only in the songs that were being sung and the relationship between Mowgli and Baloo that kept my attention firm, the rest felt overly episodic, and features villains that never come off as threatening as they seem. Years have gone by and my appreciation for Disney’s classic films have grown, especially during recent revisits, finding the stronger elements that were hidden from me before and a growing appreciation for the efforts that were brought by the animators…
Disney's adaptation of Rudyard Kipling's legendary book of the same name does filter out the dark tone of its source material in an effort to make it more family friendly and certainly was a cinematic gem of its time but looking back now, it's a tad too juvenile, simple & innocent for my taste.
The story of The Jungle Book follows Mowgli, a feral child raised by a family of wolves who is being escorted by Bagheera the panther to his own kind & for his own safety as Shere Khan the tiger has returned to the jungle. On their way, they meet Baloo the Bear who takes the young kid under his wing.

Although better served as a blast of nostalgia or simple entertainment to your young lings, 'The Jungle Book' doesn't hold up as well in the present, but is still an enjoyable time.
'The Jungle Book' follows the story of a young boy who's lived his whole life in the jungle. In this jungle are talking animals and an exciting, yet dangerous environment. With the help of a few others, Mowgli will go on an exciting adventure to find his true home.

I remember this one as being the first movie I watched in an actual movie theater. Must have been about seven. It made quite an impression.

Disney's final film it its transitional era, The Jungle Book , does falter quite a bit pacing-wise during its adventure, but it is definitely supported by its stand-out soundtrack and the vocal talent of Phil Harris.
